AGUS, a non-political and non-profit organization, was established in the year 2000 with the aim of overall development of the poor, disadvantaged and vulnerable people of the locality- a place located in the south east part of Bangladesh. More than three decades have passed since the independence of Bangladesh and many development interventions by both the government organs (GOS) and the non-government organization (NGOs) have been implemented, but the lot of the downtrodden masses has not improved that much. The Slow developments of the millions might be attributed to two major causes- the growing population of the households and the improper distribution of such resources. This calls for a concern 4ted action to be taken by the GOs and NGOs to improve the Socioeconomic condition of the poor and the marginalized people of Bangladesh.
To this end AGUS was established at the initiative of a few dedicated, motivated active people of the locality, The initiators had some working experience in certain NGOs elsewhere. As those NGOs were not coming to help the poor of this area, the initiators contemplate doing something for them. And thus AGUS came into being. It was started in 2000 and registered with the Department of Social Services in June 2001. Register No NOA 529. It tries to pick up experiences from other shining organizations no doubt, but its basic motto is learning by doing itself. Thus, during a couple of years of intervention, it emphasized the mobilization of the target population through orientation, group formation, savings generation, IGA implementation, social participation and all efforts discussed and decided by themselves.
